This little one came to see me on New Years eve!   Only 7 days old, she arrived for her newborn photo session wide awake and not at all interested in sleeping.

So, we went with the flow and did a bunch of different shots – portraits of dad and baby, mom and baby, and LOTS of newborn photos of baby by herself, all with her wide awake!  With all of our moving her around she was ready to eat and after she had a good long feeding she was finally ready to sleep.  Yeah!  Once she fell into a good deep sleep I was able to take a ton of newborn portraits.  This shot of her tiny feet is my favorite from her session.  You gotta love Alberta winters!

When I book the newborn portrait session, I book off for 3 hours.  The photo session may not last that long, but I want to make sure I have lots of time to get as many family and baby portraits as possible.  Its funny because alot of times we are not shooting at all and instead we are giving the new baby another feed or a nice long cuddle with the new mommy.  I like to take the sessions nice and relaxed so it gives baby some down time and its nice because it gives me a chance to get to know my clients better.

I always tell clients  3 things are probably going to happen at the session…baby is going to want to eat again, baby may cry and baby will probably pee on me and/or my backdrop!  It is alot harder on the new parents than it is on me! :)

I love it…Cameron had super dry skin the few weeks after he was born and yes it bothered me but to capture it as a part of him is the best thing ever!!! If this little one belong to all those other parents then they could have made the decision to have the dry skin removed….
