How did your baby suck her thumb? Did your little guy ever play with his feet? If so, was it both feet or only one side? How old was your daughter when she started to crawl? Do you remember HOW she crawled? Did she “butt schooch”, maybe pull her foot forward or did she do the traditional crawl?
My photography is really influenced by my own children. I am lucky because I have hours of video and hundreds of photos of them doing the “little things” and yet it amazes me that there are so many little things I don’t remember. So, when I am doing my newborn or baby portrait sessions, I always keep that in mind. I love to capture the “how” and really show what the babies are doing at each stage.
I remember when I first started doing newborn photography, a baby came for her Precious Parts session. She was about 4 months old and she kept stretching her tiny legs out as far as she could and then would try and lift her head. The mom commented that she did this all the time and they would laugh saying the baby was doing baby yoga! Right away I started taking photos of her doing it.
At the end of the baby’s first year sessions, I met with the mom to design the Baby’s First Year album. As we were going through all the photos I had taken during that year, we came across a few of the shots I did of the baby doing her stretching. The mom said something that really stuck with me…she said that when she saw me taking the photos, she thought I was just wasting shots but know, a year later, she was so happy that I had taken those photos, otherwise she would never have remembered her daughter even did her “baby yoga”.
I thought I would share 2 photos this week. This little one loves her thumb and I really wanted to capture HOW she sucked her thumb. I LOVE so many little things in these portraits…the wet thumb and lips, how she is sucking on just the tip, how she has her fingers so wide apart, and the total look of contentment on her face! And look at those beautiful long lashes! Enjoy!
