Clients ask me all the time how I got into doing maternity photography. It was in 2002. I had just had my daughter and I was already experimenting with the black and white baby photography. I met a lady one day who was expecting her first baby. She knew I was a photographer and asked me what kind of photography I did. I told her I was just starting to specialize in b&w baby photos but that I would love to try to do maternity photos. Two days later I was doing my first ever maternity portrait session!
That was almost 9 years ago and I still remember alot about that first shoot. It was so different than any kind of photography I had done before. I quickly realized that lighting plays a major role when taking maternity portraits and that no two maternity photo sessions were going to be the same. I think that is why I love doing maternity photography so much…it never gets boring. That and I get to meet people at one of the happiest times of their lives. How great is that!
