July22nd

Its been a year since I started doing a new style of photography, specializing in capturing newborns between 7 and 10 days old. When I registered to attend a workshop last spring, I wasn’t convinced that I would enjoy this new style of baby photography. I was never a huge fan of the Anne Geddes style of photography, where the props seemed to take over the image. I was also concerned about having parents come for portraits when their new babies were so young. I remembered how nervous I was those first few weeks after my son was born, and although I love photography, the last thing I would have been able or wanted to do, was pack him up and head out for a photo session that first week!

How wrong I was!  That first NEW ARRIVALS portrait session was amazing and I have been hooked ever since!  I love everything about the newborn photo session…the babies are so tiny and new, the parents have been wonderful and I am very blessed because alot of them have decided to stay and do my BABY’S FIRST YEAR plan so I get to see these new babies every 4 months and document the family’s first year together.

I try to keep the props to a minimum during the new baby sessions, putting the babies in some cute hats or in a basket or two.  I am trying to develop my own style and look that captures the new baby without the props taking away from the actual baby portrait.

This shot is a perfect example.  Although I specialize in black and white baby photography, I do like to add a touch of color to some of my favorites from each session.  I love the aviator hat and this pose is one of my favorites.  Enjoy!
