Clients ask me all the time what is the best age to have baby portraits done.  I like to do sessions every 4 months, with each session being some completely different so that at the end of the year you have a wonderful documentation of your first year with your baby.

I realize that not everyone has the time or resources to do sessions that often so if you want to do portraits when your baby is a little bit older, my suggestion would be to do a session at my CRAWLERS session - when your baby is about 9 months old.

This is a great age for baby portraits for a few reasons…your baby will be able to sit up well by that age and will probably be crawling.  Also, babies at 9 months old are also showing alot more of their personality and they have some favorite toys they love to play with.  This all means we will be able to do a variety of baby portraits. 

One of the things I also love to do during these photo sessions is capture how baby is playing with mommy and daddy.  That is always lots of fun because Dads tend to rough house a bit – tossing baby in the air, hanging them upside down, carrying them on their shoulders.  The babies love it so we always get lots of great smiles.

We mommies tend to dance cheek to cheek, play patty-cake, read stories and the babies love that too.

All in all, we get lots of wonderful photos with mom, dad and baby all laughing, smiling and enjoying their time together!
